SOME
DEFINITIONS
MULTIPLE
CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY (MCS)
chronic,
recurring disease with symptoms that resemble allergic reactions,
but caused by the immune system of the sufferer
being unable to cope with environmental chemicals;
it has become increasingly widespread as the range of chemicals in the environment
has multiplied;
the name suggests that the sufferer is unusually 'sensitive'
whereas the 'sensitivity' is the result of
damage by toxins
CHRONIC
FATIGUE SYNDROME (CFS)
also
known as Myalgic
Encephalopathy
or ME, it is a condition of
excessive fatigue,
often with cognitive
impairment and other varied symptoms;
it is classified by the World
Health Organisation as a
central nervous system disease of unknown
etiology
that may last months or years, causing severe
debility
HOMEOPATHY
from
the Greek words homoios
(similar) and pathos
(suffering), this is a system of treatment
that
involves the use of remedies without chemically
active ingredients; in simple terms,
the theory of homeopathy holds that symptoms induced
by a toxic substance in a healthy person
can be cured by a remedy prepared from that same
substance;
it is the 'alternative therapy' that seems to offer the best means of treating MCS
and CFS (see above)
